Plymouth 400th Committee Brand Identity Request for Proposals

For Immediate Release: Friday, September 29, 2009

Purpose:

2020 Starts Now, Inc., on behalf of the Plymouth 400th Committee, is seeking formal sealed proposals from professional marketing/advertising agencies, which specialize in brand identity.

The scope of service will be to create an iconic image, supporting images, language, color and font family that will become the logo that is used in all promotional and marketing materials that represent the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims landing in Patuxet/ Plymouth, Massachusetts.

The logo/brand identity should embody simplexity and have broad appeal as it reflects the mission, vision and goals of the Plymouth 400th Committee as supplied in this RFP.

The language should consist of a tagline that sharply and succinctly reflects the campaign theme.

The branding effort will also include the development of an appealing and appropriate color palette and typography that will become the visual calling card of the campaign.

Evaluation Criteria:
Responses will be evaluated based upon the following criteria

  • Proposed approach to working with the Plymouth 400th Committee
  • Agency reputation and quality of services
  • Comprehensiveness of services offered
  • Project schedule for completion
  • Samples of Brand Identity developed by your firm and a description of your proposed approach to identifying the Plymouth 400th Committee Brand.

Timeframe/deadline:
Three hardcopies of the completed proposal must be submitted to 2020 Starts Now, Inc., c/o The Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce, 10 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 231, Plymouth, MA 02360, Attn: Brand Identity Sub-Committee, no later than noon Friday, November 6, 2009.

Mission Statement – Plymouth 400
The mission of the Plymouth 400th Committee is three-fold:

  • to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the landing of the Pilgrims in Patuxet, Plymouth, Massachusetts, through a series of historical, cultural and educational events welcoming a local, national and international audience through the year 2020 and occurring region-wide with Plymouth at the epicenter of the commemoration;
  • to promote the significance of Plymouth in the development of America and its diverse cultural heritage;
  • and to advise the Plymouth Board of Selectmen, the State Commission and all other entities involved in the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower in 1620.

Vision

To commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Landing of the Pilgrims in Patuxet, Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1620 through a series of educational events and remembrances attended by a worldwide audience that highlight the contributions of the Pilgrims and the indigenous people of this region, the Wampanoag, in the development of America, accentuate the history of New England as a region with Plymouth at its epicenter, and provide an historically accurate, culturally inclusive overview of the founding of our nation and its impact on America’s present and future.
           

Goals: 

  • Provide programming and events over a year-long period (2019 – 2020) to serve an international audience of upwards of 500,000 visitors to Plymouth.
  • Oversee a weekend-long series of events in August 2020 to commemorate the departure of the Pilgrims from Delftshaven, Holland in pursuit of freedom and a new life in a New World.
  • Welcome upwards of 75,000 visitors over a weekend-long series of events in Plymouth scheduled to occur in August 2020. 
  • Stage international head of state visits to Plymouth.
  • Increase tourism, thereby increasing revenues to the Town of Plymouth and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Increase visibility for Plymouth, Massachusetts and its historical and cultural contributions to the world.
  • Highlight the multi-cultural roots of America – English, Dutch and Native American. 
  • Celebrate the continuing waves of immigrants whose arrival in Plymouth, and America, has shaped our nation.
