The Town of Plymouth, "America's Home Town", is preparing for the anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower in 1620, the event from which Plymouth Colony, and symbolically all of New England, grew. In September, 2007, Rev. Peter J. Gomes, Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and Pusey Minister in Harvard's Memorial Church and one of Plymouth's most celebrated native sons, agreed to take on the task of overseeing his generation's most important commemoration, Plymouth's 400th anniversary, in 2020.

Rev. Gomes is chairman of the Plymouth 2020 Celebratory Advisory Committee, which will undertake the initial steps in organizing the future celebration. A public meeting held was in December to announce the beginning of the planning process, to solicit ideas and suggestions, and to recruit volunteers for the committee. The response by local citizens was gratifying and impressive, and the composition of the Advisory Committee was announced in 2008.

We invite you to check back here from time to time for progress reports and other information, as the adventure of Plymouth's 400th unfolds.

Plymouth's 400th Anniversary is Fast Approaching!
In 9 years, Plymouth Massachusetts
will celebrate
it's 400th
birthday. The
Mayflower
Pilgrims, by
tradition, landed
on the famous Plymouth Rock

on December 21, 1620, and founded the town we still
live in today. Now
is the time to plan those events by which we will celebrate this momentous historical event.
